Traffic stop yields arrest A routine traffic stop in Patterson Thursday led to the arrest of a Bayou Vista man on narcotics and traffic charges. Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle said officers arrested Michael Rene Derouen, 33, of Fairmont Street at 9:59 p.m. on charges of possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, driving under suspension, and expired motor vehicle inspection sticker. Derouen remained in the Patterson Jail this morning awaiting the setting of bond.

Elsewhere, forgery was charged by the St. Mary Parish Sheriffs Department against a Berwick resident who allegedly passed a stolen check. Paul Henry Simmons, 24, of River Road in Berwick, was booked at 1:18 p.m. Thursday in connection with an incident in which he reportedly wrote a stolen check for $500 at a business in Patterson's Place Norman Shopping Center. The suspect was taken into custody at the Berwick Police Department where he remained this morning with no bond set.

Mardi Gras events 1 -4 Dugas last rites slated Percy J. "Mickey" Dugas, 59, a native of Paincourtville and a resident of Pierre Part, died Thursday at 3:15 a.m. in Baton Rouge. Visitation will be Saturday from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Theriot Dugas of Pierre Part; a daughter, Annette Breaux of Pierre Part; a son-in-law, Tracy Breaux of Pierre Part; three sons, Bryan Dugas and Jay Dugas, both of Pierre Part, and Kerry Dugas of Irving, Texas; two daughters-in-law, Kay Dugas of Pierre Part and Amy Dugas of Irving, Texas; a sister, Gladys D. Guillot of Paincourtville; seven brothers, Lloyd Dugas, Jessie Dugas and Lynwood Dugas, all of Paincourtville, Pat Dugas, Tony Dugas and Roland Dugas, all of Pierre Part, and Jack Dugas of Plaquemine; and six grandchildren, Joseph Dugas, Angelle Dugas, Erica Dugas, Mallory Dugas, Jake Breaux and Kris Breaux, all of Pierre Part.

Middleton, 74, a native of Chamberlan and a resident of Franklin died Tuesday at 5:35 p.m. at Iberia General Hospital following a long illness. Visitation will be held Saturday in the Jones Funeral Home chapel in Franklin from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m.

She is survived by four sons, Nathaniel Pollard of Houston, Ernest "Pete" Middleton of New York, Charles "Butch" Middleton of Franklin, and Kent Middleton of New Orleans; a daughter, Dorric Middleton of Franklin; a brother, Ernest Pollard of Houston; a sister, Selena Jones of Baton Rouge; 18 grandchildren; and three greatgrandchildren. Services set for Colley Myrl Powell Colley, 78, a native of Perry, and resident of Baton Rouge, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 1995, at her residence.

Visitation is Sunday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Monday beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Welsh Funeral Home, 6700 Florida Baton Rouge. Funeral services will be Sunday at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev.

Webster of Morgan City; a son and daughter-in-law, Bernard Gordon Colley Jr. and Rose Colley of Baton Rouge; three sisters, Jean Powell Norton of Baxley, Calif, Dorothy Martinsen of Alberta, Canada, and Marjorie Adair of Salt Lake City, Utah; six grandchildren, Melinda, Paul and Jason Webster, Tiffany Kendrick and Brian and Todd Colley; and one greatgrandchild, James David Block.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Gordon Colley her parents, a brother and a sister. Her grandsons will Berve as pallbearers. State police records also indicate that 87.5 percent of those killed in traffic accidents last year were not wearing seat belts while 10.7 percent of them were. It was not known whether the remaining 1.8 percent of the fatality victims were wearing seat belts. Also, 38.8 percent of the unbelted occupants were ejected from the vehicle in the collision, according to police reports. More fatal accidents (15) occurred on Saturday than any other day of the week, followed by Wednesday (9) and Thursday (8). State Police statistics indicated that the hours between 8 p.m.

and 10 p.m. and between midnight and 2 a.m. were when more fatal accidents happened. October saw more fatal accidents (13) than any other month, followed by November with 8. March was the only month in which no fatal accidents were handled in Troop C.

There were 21 fatality victims during 1994 within the 30-39 year age group, with another 18 in the 20-29 year range. Five children from 0-9 years of age and three elderly people (70 over) were killed in traffic accidents last year. As for the deadliest roads, La. 308 in Lafourche Parish still ranks at the top of the list in the Troop region with 10 fatal accidents recorded there in 1994.
