Amadee BY LINDA COOKE The town hall meeting at the Bayou recreation facility was held Thursday, Sept. 14 after the formerly scheduled meeting was been cancelled due to bad weather. State Representative Beryl Amadee, who won election to District 51 back in 2015, delivered a PowerPoint program and answered questions from guests.

Amadee spoke about highlights of the 2017 Legislative session, one of which was the inability to pass fiscal reform. She said the House passed a budget plan to spend two percent less revenue than forecast, but the Senate amended the bill to use 100 percent of predicted revenue and more. A compromise was reached without increasing taxes or using time for re- curring expenses. The Minimum Foundation Program was fully funded as was TOPS. As she did at the Dow sponsored breakfast at Kitchen in Napoleonville some weeks before, Amadee said Louisiana is called the capital of the and the legislature did manage to pass legislation to lower the incarceration rate and provide training for parolees to enable them to become law abiding citizens.

Relief for those awaiting Solar Energy Credits was achieved in the session. Amadee said there were 50 constitutional amandments proposed, but on October 14, voters in the primary election will have to deal with only three. Act 428 will exempt property taxes from being levied on materials at a construction site. Act 427 provides a homestead exemption for unmarried surviving spouses of some first responders killed in the line of duty. Act 429 will dedicate any new gas taxes for construc- tion and maintenance of road and bridges.

Early voting for the October 14 election will be from September 30 to October 7. Rep. Amadee will hold town meetings in Bayou Gibson on September 7 in the Donner Recreation Center and in the Anchor Foursquare Church in both at 6:30 p.m. For details, place and time, contact Rep. Amadee at or (985)858-2967..
