The fellow who stops his paper because he becomes offended at some item that does not suit his fancy, always imagines he is getting even with the publisher, but he is never missed. This only happens occasionally, for there are only a few people in any community who imagine a paper should contain nothing but what they approve of. The brick building near our office, being constructed by Mr.

W. B. Cook, for Mr. A. H.

Thompson, is rapidly reaching completion It is a splendid two-story structure, and as near fire-proof as modern ingenuity can make it, is very handsome in appearance, and reflects credit upon the contractor. It will be finished inside with pressed steel ceiling and lighted by electricity or acetylene gas, at the option of the tenants. The editor who can please everyone is not fit for this world; but is entitled to wings. Human nature is constructed so that some like scandal, some don't; some like fakes exposed, others don't; some like the truth told about them. others don't.

Some like to take the paper for seven or eight years and never miss an issue or pay a cent and get mad and stop their paper when they get a statement of their account: others don't. It is some consolation to know that the Lord himself failed to please everyone while on earth. That noble order the Ancient Order of United Druids met on Tuesday last and elected the following officers to serve for the ensuing six month: C. S. Brenn.

Morvant. Outer Guard; and the tees are C. F. Kramer, O. J.

Byerle, and R. E. Keenze. H. J.

Herman and R. E. Kenzee were chosen representatives to the Grand Grove. Work on the canal being dredged for the Hanson Lumber to connect the Teche with the swamp land in the rear of Franklin is progressing splendidly. This will be an avenue opening to industry hundreds of acres of fine timber land.

The lumber industry in Southwest Louisiana has grown in recent years to be one of the i most important features of the South's progress. With new and improved machinery and facilities the mills in St. Mary are turning out daily millions of feet best building material obtainable, and by the cutting of canals, such as the Hanson, many thousands of trees will be reached which were unavailable a few years ago. Success to the enterprise. If you want a good bargain in all your purchases, call at LOUIS LEVY'S next week.

Mr. Millington Hundgerford, of Centreville, was in Franklin this week visiting the friends of his youth, after 40 years spent in other States of the Union. Mr. Hundgerford was a former resident of Franklin, but when the black war cloud hung over the fair Southland like a pall, his services were enlisted in the cause of the Confederacy, and after the conflict he settled in Tennessee. He was a member of the Old Guard of Honor, the St.

Mary Cannoneers, and is one of the few remaining men who fought so nobly in that command. He is well known here among those who have passed the springtime of life, having spent the years of his youth and early manhood among them. He was welcomed to Franklin, not only by the elder but by the younger generation as well, who still cherish the memory of warrior fathers, and thrill when standing in the presence of one who defended the Stars and Bars for four years among hardships and privations hitherto unknown. The record of the Confederate soldier has excited the admiration of the world, and among the bravest appears the gallant old hero of four years' service, Mr. Hundgerford.
