J. D. Simms on Willow street near the market, breaking his left leg above the ankle. At the time of the accident Mr. Simms was standing in the middle of the street with his back to the on coming automobile, and being very much interested in a horse which he had raised and which was being driven in a jumper ahead of him, did not notice the automobile until it was nearly on him, when he became excited and started in one direction to get out of the way, and then turned back when the automobile struck him, -Dr.

Smith at the same time was doing all he could to avoid colliding with Mr. Simms. Dr. Smith immediately after the accident stopped his machine and examined Mr. Simms and found that his leg was broken and took him to his Sanitarium, where he administered the necessary treatment.

No home is complete without the presence of a child. No heart is lonely that is full of father and mother love. To watch the growth of a child and see it develop, day by day, is the greatest pleasure accorded to mortals. This pleasure has just fallen to the lot of Mr. and Mrs.

Wilson T. Peterman, who are rejoicing at the arrival of a bright baby girl at their home. The mother and daughter are doing well. Mardi Gras this year comes on the 23rd of February and the King will arrive on the 22nd. The charming Miss Claremont Jones, of Iow'a, Is visiting her brother, Mr.

Gordon Jones. Mr. J. E. Loustalot left this morning for New Orleans, where he will spend several days.

Sheriff Peterman arrested on Thursday evening last Mary Black, her mother and father, of Belleview plantation, charged with infanticide.

The mill of the Lumber The mill of the Kyle Lumber Company has been shut down for the past month for the purpose of being given its annual overhauling. The mill will resume work about Feb. 15th. Judge A. C.

Allen departed yesterday for New Orleans on professional business, and while there will, attend the meeting of the Grand Lodge of Masons which will convene next Monday. The paving and curbing of the court house grounds will be finished in a few days when Contractor Wilcox will commence work on the paving and curbing for the high school grounds. Among the many visitors to Franklin on yesterday was our old friend and parishioner, Representative E. Wm. Driebholz, of Ramos.

His numerous friends in part of the parish were pleased to seeliim. Buggies and Surreys for sale at Brenn's. A negro by the name of Major Vaughan, wanted tor larceny, was arrested by Sheriff Peterman Thursday mornlug about five miles from Franklin in the' swamps, where he had tracked him with his pack of bloodhounds. New pictures have greeted the delighted audiences each evening and night this week at the Ideal Electric Theatre. Manager Bodin, efforts to please, has merited the liberal patronage bestowed on his place of amusement.

of of A new grand jury was impaneled on Monday last to serve for the next six months, which is composed of the following gentlemen: Gus Drews, foreman; A. M. Cotteo, W. W. Tabor, R.

Lee Todd, M. B. Gordy. Simon Leopold, Wm. Penn, Win.

S. Berry, Adam Short, F. E. Robertson, John Arenz and D. P.

Markham. In his charge to the grand jury Judge Chas. O'Niell took issue with the Attorney General's opinion upon the foreigner clause in the Gay-Shattuck law, saying that foreigners are not forbidden the privilege of selling liquors. This was the Judge's first charge to a grand jury, and the new courthouse was crowded with spectators. The charge was a lenghty one, and gave evidences of considerable preparation, and was an eloquent appeal for the enforcement of all the reform laws.

The grand jury made a partial report Thursday, and adjourned until Wednesday, Feb. 3rd, at 12:30 p. m. The following true bills were found: Bazelle Preston, shooting with intent tc murder. Alex Lyons, murder.

Jack Coleman, et als, murder. Joseph Stansbury, et al, accessory before the fact of shooting with intent to murder. Louis Harbert, assault with a dangerous weapon. Roland Vitter, assault with intent to murder. Florence Demarest, shooting with intent to murder.

Isam Minge, assault with intent to murder." Manuel Demicelli, violating the Sunday law. Albert Tucker, disturbing the peace. Jake Wells, assault with a dangerous weapon. Alabama Kidd, shooting with intent, to kill. Addison Thibodaux, murder.

Israel Camel, kidnapping. Fresh Garden Seeds at O'Niell's. wireless telephone will be demonstrated on the grounds of the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition next year. The nineteenth annual reunion of the United Confederate Veterans will be held in Memphis, on June 8, 9 and 10th. Governor Sanders his staff will attend the inaugural ceremonies in Washington on March 4th.

They will go in a private car. Ticket auditors will be placed on the Southern Pacific on Feb. 1st, to cover the entire system from New Orleans to San Francisco. Under the new arrangement the conductors will run the train and the auditors will collect tickets and fares. State Superintendent Harris has given positive instructions to the fifty-nine parish superintendents of Louisiana that no teachers will be allowed to teach in Louisiana, who do not either hold a teachers' certificate, or a diploma recognized as certificates.

Mr. W. B. Patton and his company played at the Auditorium on last Monday night to an exceptionallyjlarge audience, every seat of the Auditorium was filled with an admirer of the peculiar comedian to hear him and his company render his latest and successful comedy "The Blockhead." Mr. Patton has been coming to Franklin for the last four or five years, and in all of his plays the people of our town have greeted him with packed more than he justly deserves.
